Social Communication Skills Group
This program provides a small group of pre-schoolers with an opportunity to develop their social communication and language skills. It engages the participation of parents and consults with the participants' kindergarten teachers.
Can you use this service?
Children accepted into this group will typically have difficulties interacting socially with their peers. They may be referred to the group by a kindergarten teacher, health professional or their own families. Prior to their admission to the group they will be assessed for suitability by our staff.
Services are available to children from birth to school entry (0-6 years) and their families, who work, live or study in the City of Whitehorse. We prioritise our services for people on low-medium incomes and holders of Health Care or Pension cards.
In addition, children can use these services if they:
- attend preschool or child care services within the City of Whitehorse
- have difficulties that are not complex / global / long term in nature but who would benefit from specific service (speech, OT or psych).
To join any of the groups offered for children as part of their care, all children must first be assessed by one of the health professionals within the Children’s team.
