The “School Readiness Group Program” is conducted in Term 4 at WCHS. To be eligible, children must be current clients of the WCHS Children’s Team and be preparing to start school in the following year. Each group comprises of 6 – 8 children and parents attend with their children. The groups are conducted by experienced Speech Pathologists. The School Readiness Group aims to prepare children for starting school by developing their skills in listening, phonological awareness, turn-taking and fine motor through interactive games and craft activities.
Can you use this service?
Services are available to children from birth to school entry (0-6 years) and their families, who work, live or study in the City of Whitehorse. We prioritise our services for people on low-medium incomes and holders of Health Care or Pension cards.
In addition, children can use these services if they:
- attend preschool or child care services within the City of Whitehorse
- have difficulties that are not complex / global / long term in nature but who would benefit from specific service (speech, OT or psych).
To join any of the groups offered for children as part of their care, all children must first be assessed by one of the health professionals within the Children’s team.
