Speech Pathology
Adult speech pathology provides assessment and treatment of speech, language and swallowing problems, particularly related to stroke, neurological disorders, head injury, surgery and aging.
Difficulties leading to referral may include:
- Difficulty with speech clarity, finding the right words to say, difficulty expressing needs or ideas
- Difficulty understanding/processing other's speech
- Difficulty with spelling, reading, writing
- Difficulty with thinking, memory, social skills as they relate to using language.
- Difficulty with swallowing food or liquid, choking or coughing during mealtimes
- Carers need for information/advice.
Home based services are available to clients who would be unable to access centre-based services

- Individual or group programs
- Support and education for clients and carers
Speech Pathology especially for children
Our service also offers speech pathology for children aged between birth and school age (0 - 6 years) as part of our Children's Services Team. This service provides assessment, individual therapy and group therapy programs. To find out more detail about our services for children please click here.
Can you use this service?
Speech Pathology services are for frail older people, younger people with disabilities and others who need support to continue managing independently at home.
You need to work, live or study in the City of Whitehorse and we prioritise our services for people on low-medium incomes and holders of Health Care or Pension cards.
