Legislation
Under legislation, WCHS has a clear responsibility to maintain the privacy of client information. This includes verbal and written information.
The following page describes how we ensure your information remains private. It is an information sheet put out by the Department of Human Services. It is available in multiple other languages, if required.
WCHS has a privacy policy and procedure that is based on the following legislation:
- Freedom of Information Act 1982 (State)
- Health Records Act 2000 (State)
- Information Privacy Act 2000 (State)
Privacy Act 1988 (Federal)
All clients of WCHS have the right to receive a copy of the policy and procedure that describes in more detail the management of personal/health information, the purposes for which health information is used, and how WCHS collects, holds and discloses information.

In summary, WCHS seeks to uphold the highest standards of client privacy by:
- Protecting your rights to privacy, both within and outside the Service.
- Acknowledging that information recorded in your record is owned by you.
- Providing access to the information WCHS holds about you
Please note that in the case of dental services, your information may be accessed by Dental Health Services Victoria.
